Senior visit to Brighton Judo Club
An instructive session led by the legendary Steve Shuka, with some great techniques taught, learned and put into practice.  A high standard of Judo and a delightful group of players makes Brighton well worth a visit.

Senior visit to Hollington Judo Club
A light session led by Neil Chalcraft and Sean Martin, featuring some fine Judo principles put into practice.  Work on setting up throwing positions was followed by transition into newaza with a couple of older techniques revised.  An enjoyable experience.

Senior visit to Kin Ryu Judo Club

A well-structured class led by Richard Williams, with a focus on two forms of  yoko tomoe nage with transition into newaza.  The instructions were clear and precise and a high level of execution was implicit throughout the session.  A batch of highly-skilled judoka ensured that the randori was both educational and rewarding. The preceding Advanced Junior session, led by Lisa Rivers focussed on ni dan ko soto gari, which then linked to sode guruma jime.  This was an exemplar lesson in how to get the very best from your students.  All in all, this was a delightful evening.

Senior visit to Chichester Ronin Judo Club
A very quiet evening (due to it being Half Term) led by John Rowland.  This was a well-structured session, introducing some key points to improve tachiwaza skills and several ideas to work on in newaza.  A good judo experience in a delightful dojo.

Senior visit to Worthing Judo Club
A very busy session with lots of activities, ran by the ever-enthusiastic Chris Cooper.  Just like the preceding junior session there could not have been more packed into a one hour session.  A great workout.

Senior visit to MSK-Checkmat
A step outside of the Judo world for a taste of Brazilian Ju Jitsu (quite a lot of Judo, actually).  Some skilful newaze clearly demonstrated by head coach Tony Ferreira, preceded by throwing opponents with stiff-arm defences taught by our Judo colleague, Jonathan Hodge.  Definitely a great  evening.

Senior/Junior visit to Keisen Judo Club
A focussed session from Sussex County Coach James Draper.  Good warm ups and a competitive finish, with some great techniques taught and practised with partners and in randori.  All in all splendid session that everyone seemed to enjoy.

Senior visit to Dynamic Judo Club
A well-balanced session delivered by the charismatic Sam Werrett, featuring a healthy balance of technique, uchikomi, randori, tachiwaza and newaza with structured warm-ups and warm-downs.  An extra demonstration from Neil Chalcraft (Hollington Judo Club) complemented the session, as did the extra support from Rob Smith (Pinewood Judo Club).  Our visits to Bexhill on Wednesday evenings are always enjoyable and worthwhile.

Senior/Junior visit to Mid Sussex Martial Arts School Judo Club
A very precise session led by none other than Roger Payne himself.  From warm-up to warm-down everything was steeped in etiquette and ethos and, without ever being rushed, we covered such a lot in just one and a half hours.  An incredible experience for any Judo enthusiast.

Senior/Junior visit to Uckfield Judo Club
A really nice two-hour session planned and delivered very well by coach Ana Fialho. With the right mixture of preparation, techniques, practice, randori, tachiwaza and newaza, this session definitely deserved a better turnout.

Senior visit to Nutfield Judo Club
A great session that made maximum use of its mat area to offer great preparation and technique work prior to some very good randori.  This visit was well worth the journey across the Surrey border.

Senior visit to Club Judoka
A very well-structured and high-energy tachiwaza session led by Ross Elliot.  From the warm-up, through technique instruction, crash mat nage-komi, randori and the warm-down, this event was organised to be of maximum benefit to the participants.  An enjoyable evening at a venue well worth visiting on a Thursday evening.

Senior/Junior visit to Tonbridge Judo Club
A quiet class in the holiday season that made the most of all players on the mat.  Vic Court ran a lively session, with a good mixture of exercises, stretches, techniques, practice, exploration and randori.  A very good Friday evening with ideas to take away.

Senior visit to Westerleigh Judokwai
A delightful visit to a very special club, catering for players with additional needs as well as mainstream judoka.  A very busy and well-differentiated session delivered by Paul Everest with support from several members of the coaching team.

Junior visit to Shoreham Judo Club
An enjoyable visit to Eastbrook Academy, Southwick, under the guidance of the ever-impressive Sophie Johnstone.  It was so good to witness the enthusiasm of the youngsters and become infected by their willingness to learn.

Senior visit to Eastbourne (Dynamic) Judo Club
A well-structured session pitched appropriately as an introduction to Judo for newer members.  Led by the ever-energetic Peter Lassman this new club has the makings of a successful venture in a good location for the development of Sussex Judo.  I look forward to our next visit later on in the year.
